At our Lonavala Ashram site, I love to trek in the mountains because I find it full of positive energy and vibrations. It is situated in the middle of the Western Ghats, overlooking a lake and in the lap of an ancient fort of Shivaji, Lohgarh. You can get overwhelmed with pristine, natural beauty, clean air, gentle cool breeze and positive vibrations.
What is the source of this positive energy? Over the years, on our annual trip to the Ashram, I have been collecting crystal stones – probably quartz or calcites. After I returned to US, while surfing on the web, I came across the website written by The Healing Power of Crystals by Dr. Olga Rodriguez Rasmussen, and also recalled the words of GuruMaa who has instilled in me the importance of positive energy and vibrations. It all came together. Our Ashram site is full of crystal stones buried under the mountainenous terrain which is contributing towards the positive energy. Directly quoting from this website, “Crystals, gems and stones, have a long history of use in healing work in practically every culture and religious tradition since the dawn of time.
Crystals are powerful stones capable of even turning sound into light. While we may consider crystals to be both inert and lifeless, the reality is they constitute and comprise the very essence of our physical and even energetic composition. Our bodies, like crystals, are composed of silicone and water, and that is why we can so intensely feel the vibration of a crystal bowl resonating within us. If we believe that crystals are as much a part of the web of connection as we are, then we can readily recognize that crystals have the ability to act as intermediaries, enabling us to communicate and connect with higher levels of consciousness and existence. If one truly espouses the belief that everything in the Universe is interconnected, then one must recognize that crystals are really just another manifestation or reflection of who we are.” Richard Gerber’s book, Vibrational Medicine: The #1 Handbook of Subtle-Energy Therapies, was perhaps one of the earlier works on alternative medicine techniques. He writes in his book,
“All crystalline structures are formed of mathematically precise and orderly lattice arrays of atoms. The crystalline structure will respond in unique and precise ways to a wide spectrum of energies including heat, light, pressure, sound electricity, gamma rays, microwaves, bioelectricity, and even the energies of consciousness… In response to these varying energetic inputs, the molecular structure of the crystal will undergo particular modes of oscillation, thereby creating specific vibratory frequencies of energy emission. Quartz crystals can be used in many different ways to process various types of energy. With proper training, a healer can release negative thought forms which have taken shape as disease patterns in a patient’s physical body. ……the quartz crystal is capable of amplifying and directing the natural energies of the healer. The subtle energies of the healer’s field become focused and coherent in a manner similar to a laser”
These functions are numerous and include reception, reflection, refraction, magnification, transduction, amplification, focusing, transmutation, transference, transformation, storage…stabilization, modulation, balancing, and transmittance. Of particular interest…is the application of these functions of quartz crystals towards subtle energetic healing of human illness. Although the crystal may be used for “mind to mind” communication, its higher purpose…is in the service of humanity for the removal of pain and suffering.
The Power Of Crystals by Denise Brown has an excellent summary of the healing properties of different crystals and stones. Here is a sampling from the book: Agat is an excellent stone to cleanse the aura around you and promotes clarity in your thinking. It comes in various colors: white, blue, orange etc. each with different healing properties. Amber is used to treat kidneys and bladder, besides bringing good luck. Little children in India wear Amber stone beads. Amber is actually a fossilized tree resin in golden brown color. Amethyst is mauve/purple in color and activates spiritual awareness and psychic abilities. Aquamarine is bluish green to blue in color and endows us with courage. It also calms your mind and an useful aid in meditation. Helitrope is bright green in color with red spots and is also known as the blood jasper. It alleviates physical and emotional problems associated with the heart. It is also use to treat blood disorders. Calcite comes in different colors – blue, green, orange, red etc. each with its own healing properties.
For instance, the orange calcite stone is used to treat all problems related to the reproductive system. Chrysocolla – is bright blue-green in color and is excellent in treating infections and inflammations of the sinuses, tonsils, larynx and lungs. Chrysoprase is of apple-green color and is used to heal relationships. It also stimulates the liver. Diamond – links us with the divine and removes any obstacles on our path to enlightenment. It is also a symbol of lasting love and to solidify relationships. It is the hardest known mineral and is scratch-proof. Emerald – is usually bright green in color and is associated with the healing of the heart. It dispels negativity. It is also used in the treatment of eye diseases. Garnet come sin various colors – shades of red, brown, orange etc.
It is supposed to stimulate the kundalini. It makes the wearer feel safe and secure. We will continue in the next Journal. Always consult an expert before wearing any stone, and be careful with the source of your purchases. Healing with Crystals – Part 2 As I wrote in the last edition of the Vedic Journal, our Ashram site is full of crystal stones buried under the mountainenous terrain which is contributing towards the positive energy. Her Holiness GuruMaa wears a lot of stones (ring/pendant) and believes in the power of precious and semi-precious stones. Precious and semi-precious stones are widely used in India and many other countries for healing purposes or to lessen the negative influence of certain planetary positions, or to enhance the positive influence.
Our Vedas have indicated a close relationship between planetary positions in your astrological chart and Gems. The moon signs (rashi) are primarily used to relate gems to an individual at any point of his or her life. You must consult an astrologer who is not interested in making money by selling gems stones to you. The exact gemstone is dependent on many factors and only a selfless expert can guide you appropriately.
The gemstones assigned to each planet according to the moon signs are as follows: Sun Ruby Moon Pearl Mars Coral Mercury Emerald Jupiter Topaz Venus Diamond Saturn Blue Sapphire Rahu Amethyst Ketu Cat’s Eye Also, different planets (and hence gemstones) are assigned to different fingers. Generally, the ring finger is the best for wearing rings. There is also a difference between the left and right hands. Many believe that the right hand is ‘solar’ and left hand is ‘lunar’. If a person is seeking balance in life than the gems related to Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu should be worn on the left hand, and the gems related to Moon, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter should be worm on the right hand. If one wants to enhance solar energy in your system, then wear ruby, coral, etc on the right hand. Besides the relationship of gems and crystals with astrology, gemstones have been used since ancient times for healing. Gem therapist use gem water and alcohol treated with gems, as well as ashes (bhasma or oxides) and powder (pishthi).
Gem Water:
Gems are placed in a copper or silver pit overnight after they have been purified with unboiled cow’s milk or Ganga-Jal. In the morning, the gem water is divided into 3 parts and the patient is supposed to consume it three times a day. Gems are electrolytes and water is the best conductor of heat and electricity. The water gets ionized by the gem, and helps bring electrochemical balance in the body. Alcohol made from gems: While Gem Water cannot be stored; alcohol can be stored for a long period of time. Glass jars should be used; and the jars should be kept in a room where there is enough light, but never in direct sunlight. Alcohol with gems healing properties in prepared in daylight, whereas Gem Water is prepared overnight. Pishthi or paste from gems: Every gem requires a different method – but the principles are same. After the gems are purified, the gems are ground for manay, many days with a soft hand using rose water, sandalwood water etc. Generally force is not applied. After the paste is formed, it can be dried. The dried powder should be as fine as talcum powder. This can be stored for longer period of time. Gem Oxides: Once again, different gem stones require different methods of preparing its oxides. Basically, the gems are gound for multiple hours or days to prepare paste or powder. The pasteis converted into tablets and put in a cfully enclosed cay pot. The clay pot is then put in a fire of cowdung cakes. Time will vary according to the gem stone. After removing from the fire, the bhasm is removed from the clay pots. Many, many precious and semi-precious stones are used to heal many diseases.
A qualified Ayurvedic practitioner should be consulted, and ‘gemstones’ medicines should only be bought from well reputed practitioners. All necessary care and precautions must be taken. Key is faith. References: The Healing Power of Gemstones by Harish Johari, The Healing Power of Gemstones by Raymond J L.
